Overview

The Medialon Video Capture MXM provides the capability to display an analog video in Manager, using any DirectX compatible Video Capture board. These boards may offer several video inputs such as Tuner, Composite, and S-Video. They also allow several analog video standards (PAL, SECAM, NTSC). Video Inputs and Video Standard and other settings can be set from Manager.

Note on system performance: This MxM supports any DirectX Compatible Video Capture Board, however video quality and processing power needed to display the video depend upon the relationship between the Video Capture Board and the VGA Video Board installed in the computer. Two commands ( “Select Capture Size” and “Select Color Space/Comp”) are provided in order to optimize the video quality and/or the CPU Usage for a particular application. Using the correct settings can greatly increase the overall system performance.

Here are the recommended settings for popular Video Capture boards:

MxM Installation

You need to install the Video Capture card with the provided installation CD-ROM, before using the MxM. The operating system must be Windows 2000, Windows XP or higher. Windows NT4 is not supported.

DirectX 8.1 or higher must be installed (which is usually done by the board installation CD).

Device Commands

Select Input

Select analog video source for incomming video.

Select Standard

Select analog video source standard.

Video Standard: [Enum] Video standard.

Select Capture Size

Select Video Capture size.

Usage: Note that this parameter does not change the container size. It rather instructs the Video Capture Board to sample and to stream the video at the indicated size. The specified size may or may not be supported by the Video Capture Board depending upon the board capabilities.

CAUTION: changing this setting may greatly increase the CPU usage. Note also that some video drivers may not support all of the Capture Size/Color Space combinations.

Select Color Space/Comp

Select Color Space and/or Compression format of the video.

Usage: This parameter sets the video format of the capture stream, that is, the way the Video Capture board samples Y,U and V and compresses the video stream. The specified Color Space and Compression format may or may not be supported by the Video Capture Board depending upon the board capabilities.

CAUTION: changing this setting may greatly increase the CPU usage. Note also that some video drivers may not support all of the Capture Size/Color Space combinations.
