Overview

The Comtrol DeviceMaster series are Serial ports servers communicating over Ethernet. This MRC uses the TCP/IP Telnet Control Port protocol (also referenced as RFC–2217) to communicate with DeviceMaster servers.

Installation

DeviceMaster modules must be configured to accept TCP/IP Telnet Control Port protocol connections in order to work with the MRC. This configuration is done using a WEB brower.

Connect the DeviceMaster using its IP address (if you don’t know the IP address of your DeviceMaster see How to change DeviceMaster IP Address). The following page will be displayed:

Check if the Telnet Com Port Control option is enabled for each port you want to use, like shown in the picture above. If not, click of ‘Port X’ link to open the port configuration page:

Make sure the ‘TCP Connection Configuration’ ‘Enable’ option is checked, ‘Listen’ option is checked, ‘Port’ field is set and ‘Telnet Com Port Control’ option is checked.

Finally, from the Server Configuration page, click on ‘Configure Network’ link to access ‘Network Configuration’ page:

Set the ‘Rx Polling Period’ field to 10ms. The lower the value, the more the Rx respond time is increased on the serial port. Click ‘Save’ to confirm your changes.

Note: To change the IP address of a DeviceMaster, you must use the Comtrol PortVision utility. This utility lists the DeviceMasters present on the netwoork, thus it is the way to know their respective IP addresses:

Setup

Resource Scanning

This MRC doesn’t support ressource scanning feature.

Setup

A Comtrol DeviceMaster resource can be added by creating new resource with “New Resource > Comtrol DeviceMaster Serial” Menu.

The Setup window opens, allowing to enter resource settings:

Network Address

IP address of the DeviceMaster module.

Network Port

IP port of the DeviceMaster module port. Note that each serial port has its own IP port, accordingly to the value entered in ‘Port’ field of ‘TCP Connection Configuration’ page.

Click on “OK” to add the Serial Resource.
